p.s. Congratulations on quitting the day job. If you really feel regret, and your friend/supervisor really wants you to stay, maybe you could work out a part-time contract. Otherwise, go for it. You are so talented – you surely can be one of those who “makes it.” I certainly will be rooting for you to succeed in every way possible.

Hi, Deidre. I am one of those “others” and what I think is that I love that lumpy, bumpy, mottled terrain of the before-flat quilt. Follow your instincts. Otherwise, what’s the point. As for college, nobody gets academic scholarships anymore, except for the true geniuses. The way it goes nowadays, financial aid is for those who would not otherwise be able to attend college. So, if your son is a good student, an earnest student, then the poorer you are, the better deal you’ll get. The fact that you just decreased your income may do you more good than you realize. And, remember, things have a way of working out. :)
