About
I am a visual artist living in Littleton, Colorado. In my painting and mixed media work, I make abstract compositions with a concern for interesting divisions of space. Although abstract in design, my compositions often include elements evocative of structure, with vertical and horizontal divisions reminiscent of windows or doorways, or with strong horizon lines that reflect the idea of landscape. Texture is also very important to me, and its use is an important aspect of my work.
I’m inspired by images that others might consider ugly, such as manmade structures or machines abandoned and left to nature’s whims. I’m fascinated by change and transformation, things like rust and peeling paint, where surface layers are worn away to reveal what lies beneath, creating a new beauty in the process.
Having grown up and lived all my life in the Southwest, I’m also influenced by the vast array of visual elements to be found here. I love a roadtrip, and the further off the beaten path, the better. I keep a photographic journal of these travels, and the compositions of the landscape and the structures left upon it provide further inspiration.
